What is an Age Calculator?

An age calculator is an online tool that helps you find the exact age of a person, place or thing using the information you provide.

How to Use this Age Calculator?

By default, the calculator displays today’s date in both the ‘Date of Birth’ and ‘Current Age or Age as’ fields.

To find out your current age or the age of any object or thing, enter the correct details in the ‘Date of Birth’ field and leave the ‘Current Age or Age as’ field unchanged. If you want to check how old you were or will be on a specific date, simply fill in the ‘Date of Birth’ field and select the desired date in the ‘Current Age or Age as’ field. You can also use the same method to calculate the age of a place or thing on a specific date.

To use this calculator, you need to follow the steps below:

  1. First, select the appropriate month, date, and year from the drop-down menu in the ‘Date of Birth’ field
  2. Next, select the required month, date, and year in the ‘Current Age or Age as’ field, or leave it unchanged as per your requirement
  3. After that, click on the ‘Calculate’ button to see the result
  4. If you want to perform another calculation, click on the ‘Clear’ button to reset the calculator and enter new details as per the requirement.

Calculating Age

To determine the difference between ages or dates:

Arrange the dates as if you were asking a long subtraction question. Write the dates in the format yyyy mm dd, with the first date at the bottom.

Subtract the days. If necessary, borrow 1 from the month. The borrowed days will match the number of days in the month you are going to.

Subtract the months. If necessary, borrow 1 year and add 12 months to the month calculation.

Subtract the years.

Your result will show the difference in age or date in years – months – days.

How to Calculate Age from Birth Date in Excel

Excel can help you track age or time that has passed since a specific date or event. Enter a birth date or event in a cell using the MM/DD/YYYY format. Use this formula to get the age in years: =DATEDIF(A1, TODAY(), “Y”). Here, A1 refers to the cell containing the birth date or event.

To calculate the total months and days from a date, use =DATEDIF(A1, TODAY(), “YM”) for the whole months. Then, use =DATEDIF(A1, TODAY(), “MD”) in another cell to get the remaining days.

Finally, you can combine the results using the CONCAT function like this: =CONCAT(A2, ” years,”, A3, ” months,”, A4, ” days”). In this example, A2, A3, and A4 refer to the years, months, and days you are counting.

How Can I Calculate my Exact Age?

The method of calculating age can vary across cultures. For example, a 20-year-old according to the International Age System may appear 1 or 2 years older according to Chinese or Korean age traditions.

In the International Age System, you can calculate age in two main ways. When calculating age in years, count each year as having 365 days. For example, if someone is 15 years old, you are not saying that they consist of 10 regular years plus 5 leap years.

However, to calculate age in days, you have to account for months that have 30, 31, 28, or 29 days. Our tool uses the same logic, automatically calculating the different lengths of regular (365 days) and leap years (366 days) to give you an exact age in days.

For example, if your birthday is January 05, 2000 and today is May 01, 2024, the calculator finds the exact number of days between these dates using this formula:

Age in days = Total year with 365 days + Total year with 366 days + Remaining days in the current year

How does this age calculator work?

India has a rich mix of cultures, and many traditional calendars are still used across the country. Some of the well-known calendars include Shaka Samvat, Vikram Samvat, and Hijri calendar. However, for official and administrative purposes, India follows the Gregorian calendar, which is widely accepted in most countries around the world.

This age calculator works entirely on the Gregorian calendar system. Under this calendar, a standard year has 365 days, while a leap year has 366 days. The year is divided into 12 months, with each month having a fixed number of days. Most months have 30 or 31 days, while February has 28 days in a regular year and 29 days in a leap year.

The calculator follows the most commonly accepted age calculation method. In this system, a person’s age starts at zero at birth and becomes one only after completing 12 full months. Similarly, the calculator adds one year to age when a full 12-month period has passed since the date of birth or the selected start date.

FAQs

Q1. What is the process of calculating age?

To calculate age, first find the number of completed years in the current year by subtracting the year of birth. For example, if the current year is 2023 and the year of birth is 2000, the total completed years is 23. Step 2: Then, subtract the month of birth to determine the number of completed months in the current month.

Q2. How does an age calculator work?

An age calculator is a digital tool or software that finds a person’s age using their date of birth and the current date. It measures the difference in years, months, and days between the two dates, giving an accurate age result.

Q3. What is the best way to estimate age?

Age can be assessed through physical examination; reviewing life history, linking personal milestones to local or national events; and checking available informal records. The accuracy of age must pass three standards: biological reliability, historical consistency, and verification from reliable sources.

Q4. How accurate are age calculators?

Home biological age tools can provide helpful insights but generally do not match the accuracy of clinical tests. Professional tests evaluate a wider set of biomarkers and use advanced equipment, resulting in more reliable results.
